I am not an attendee of these shows but my parents were at one time. I have no expertise in this whatsoever but I think that because of gas prices and a waning economy, the attendance will go down and down. Sorry. It just makes sense. People will no longer have enough money to buy things so the tradespeople will not have the income to do the same. Horrible circle.
I believe that the attendees that are continuing to go to trade shows are being more selective in the shows they choose, this does have an upside to trade show exhibitors in the sense that the audiences are more focused and high quality prospects will be visiting your exhibit booth.

I depends on what kind of industry you are talking about. In general we have not seen that kind of decline in trade shows.
